ROUTINE SCREENINGS

Every year, the nursing staff conducts routine screenings in accordance with Massachusetts General Law. In the early fall, hearing screening will be done for students in grades K – 3, 8 and 10 and vision screening will be done for students in grades K – 5, 8 and 10. All students in grades 5 – 9 will be screened for scoliosis. You will be notified of any findings that may require follow-up with your child's physician. All students in grades 1, 4, 7 and 10 will have their height, weight, BMI (Body Mass Index) and BMI percentage done. Each school nurse will report those findings, accompanied by recommendations for life long healthy eating and maintaining a healthy body weight, to parents/guardians by mail in February.

If you would prefer that your child not participate in any of these screenings, we ask that you please send a note to your school nurse identifying from which screening you want your child exempt.

Physical examinations are required for all students entering grades K, 4, 7 and 11.
