Respect...honesty....kindness....excellence...responsibility...Karlie Williams knows these words. The third grader sees them every day in the Hansen School cafeteria. Each word, and many others including safety and cooperation, make up the school's core values.
During a one hour school assembly last week, Williams watched an educational entertainer bring these values, as well as important messages about bullying and peer pressure, to life through story and song.
"It taught us a lot of lessons," said Williams, 9. "It was musical and it was really great."
Lou Del Bianco, an actor, singer and story-maker, presented the show, called "Making Good Choices." Through lots of audience participation and cool rap-like music, Del Bianco brought the students on a journey through his childhood, using experiences and memories to teach the children about making good choices.
After telling stories that included a choice, Del Bianco asked the children if the right choice was made or if a better choice could have been made.
"There are many different ways to make a good choice in life," said Del Bianco. "One way is by showing tolerance, another by showing patience."
