"Run, run, run," is all you can hear at a Stoughton High School softball game as the third base coach is telling the base runner to go home for the winning run.

The 2009 softball season for the Varsity, JV, and Freshman Stoughton High School Black Knights is off to a grand slam start.

The Varsity team, coached by Ms. Sullivan and Ms. Deane, has a record of 4-6.

"I think the team works exceptionally hard and we have three outstanding captains and six seniors who provide great leadership and with the great leadership," Sullivan said. "We show steady improvement."

Coach Deane also remarked that it is the team's exceptional teamwork that has been keeping the Lady Knights ahead.
"I feel that the team is very united and everyone works to make the team better and everyone has a role to make the team improve," Deane said.

This season's team is lead by captains catcher Erica Batchelder, shortstop Sam Cash, and Second Baseman Nicole Poirier. Also on the team this season are the two incoming freshman Nicole Barton and Felicia Baptista.

Barton's excitement is emblematic of their strong teamwork.

"I enjoy being a part of a team so close and determined," she said.

So far the Stoughton Varsity girls' team is doing great. Let's hope the rest of their season has as much hard work involved.

The Stoughton JV softball team, coached by Mr. Mark and Ms. Murphy, has a record of 6-6. Every game the JV girls leave their hearts on the softball field as they slap hands and pack up.

"Its been good and bad," Coach Mark said about the season so far. "But they are really good kids, so I'm having fun."
Most of the games theyíve won so far have been blowouts including a shutout pitched by incoming freshman Kayla Floro. Other incoming freshman include pitcher Jessica Frietas and centerfielder Chirstina Bacon. All three of them have been working hard to show that they deserve to be playing on the JV field.

Let's hope that JV keeps up the hard work and finishes out the season with a homerun!

The last, but certainly not least, team for Stoughton softball is the freshmen team coached by Mr. Norton with a current record of 3-4.

"I feel really good about this season," Norton said. "We play hard, practice hard, and play smart."

Moriarty leads the team with me as co-captain and has shown great leadership throughout all games and practices.

The freshman never five up during games and always want to play no matter what the weather is like. The greatest thing about them is that they play like a true team; to them there is no 'I' in team.

With all the hard work put in by them, Stoughton knows and hopes that the rest of their season will be nothing but wins!

"1, 2, 3... Go Knights!" is what's said before every game, and that is what the whole town of Stoughton thinks too. So Stoughton softball go out on that field and play your hearts out and you will get another victory to add to your records.
