West Elementary School Nominated as a Blue Ribbon School
The West Elementary School has been nominated for designation as a Blue Ribbon School. This program requires schools to meet either of two assessment criteria. It recognizes schools that have at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that dramatically improve student performance in accordance with state assessment systems; and it rewards schools that score in the top 10 percent on state assessments.
Nomination for designation as a Blue Ribbon School is a tremendous compliment to the students and staff of the West Elementary School.

In today's high-tech environment featuring hand-held and computer video games, getting elementary school children to sit down with a good book and read can be a challenge. But by making connections between the real world and reading, educators can peak students' interests.That was exactly the plan as West Elementary School hosted Guest Reader Day last Thursday.
