March 17, 2020 Update

Dear SPS Families-

When I woke up this morning and it was snowing, I wondered if today would be a snow day…. Turns out it’s St. Patrick’s Day!! Hope you are all well. Tomorrow is the pick of the week, weather-wise, so let’s all get outside and exercise!

A few quick updates as of today, March 17, 2020.

1- Food Service Change! Based on the number of people coming to pick up breakfasts and lunches, we are consolidating Food Service Grab and Go to just O’Donnell Middle School. No more food service at Dawe or Gibbons. Still for ALL families, but just one site. 9:30-11:30 every day. We are looking into delivery beginning Monday, possibly somewhat connected to bus routes. More to come on that soon. (Remember, if you are sick, PLEASE stay home and call your school office if you need food service.)

2- Continuation of Learning Experiences. So far, families have seen a wonderful collection of online (and offline) activities for students to be able to do over the next few weeks. On Friday, our SPS teachers will begin providing somewhat more specific recommended work/activities based on each student’s grade or course. All of our teachers from PreK to Grade 12, specialists, special educators, and coordinators are working on their own recommendations to meet the needs of our many learners. I am very grateful for the collaborative spirit of the Stoughton Teachers Association which represents our faculty who care deeply about our students’ success. Be on the lookout for emails or Google Classroom notes or other connections from teachers soon.

3- Chromebooks will be distributed for Secondary families in need on Thursday and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 behind SHS. Ms. Miller and Mr. Colantonio are sending separate emails with directions on where to go and how to fill out the user agreement forms. We will review our supplies after Friday and determine if we can extend the lending program at that time.

4- Based on new guidelines from the state, ALL of our buildings are now closed to the public. Administrators and secretaries may still be in the buildings and will receive calls to the buildings no matter what. Please call or email with any questions or requests. Central Office (31 Pierce Street at the Jones) will remain open from 8am to 3pm every day.

5- Super Stories at Six will begin Thursday evening at 6pm. I will be reading different stories each night, about 10-15 minutes each, and will be focusing on elementary-age students, but, I promise, the stories will appeal to ALL listeners. I’ll post my Youtube Channel links tomorrow.

6- If you want to smile, check out the amazing pictures of our students at work on the SPS Facebook and Twitter pages!  (Thanks Mrs. Ostroff!)

Thanks everyone! We've got this Knights!
