U.S. News & World Report List of Best Schools

We are proud to announce that two of our schools are considered among the best by U.S. News & World Report. For the third consecutive year, the Wilkins School has been recognized as one of the best elementary schools in the state. Additionally, for the second consecutive year, Stoughton High School has also been recognized as one of the best high schools.

U.S. News & World Report looks at schools across the country for its annual rankings list. Almost 950 elementary schools in Massachusetts were ranked for this year’s list. Public elementary schools ranking in the top 40 percent of their state earned the distinction of being named one of the best schools by U.S. News & World Report. This included the Wilkins School, which ranked in the top 15 percent of elementary schools in Massachusetts.

“I continue to be incredibly proud of the staff and students of Wilkins! It is a true honor to be named to the U.S. News & World Report list of top elementary schools for the third consecutive year. This recognition reflects the hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment of everyone who has supported our students throughout their years at our school,” said Katie Monahan, Principal of the Wilkins School. “While we are proud to be acknowledged for our strong MCAS performance, our greatest pride comes from knowing that our students leave Wilkins well-prepared and confident as they continue their academic journeys.”

Meanwhile, public high schools ranking in the top 40 percent nationally earned the distinction of being named one of the best high schools by U.S. News & World Report. Stoughton High was in the top 31 percent of the almost 18,000 high schools ranked across the country.

“This recognition is a testament to the steady, focused work happening at Stoughton High School. Our students, faculty, and staff remain committed to growth, high expectations, and expanding opportunities for every learner,” said Juliette Miller, Principal of Stoughton High. “At SHS, we believe that when students feel supported, they thrive—and this recognition is a reflection of our entire community. I’m incredibly proud of our students, educators, and families whose partnership makes this achievement possible. We’re honored to see that commitment reflected in the U.S. News ranking.”

Elementary schools are ranked based on student proficiency in math and reading, with the top-ranked schools recognized as high achieving ones that succeeded in educating all of their students. The High school ranking focuses on six indicators of school quality: college readiness; breadth of curriculum; scores on state proficiency tests; performance in reading, math, and science; underserved student performance; and graduation rates.

“We are continuously improving because of the work of our outstanding scholars, educators, support staff and leaders. It does take a village and both Wilkins Elementary and Stoughton High are moving in the right direction,” said Dr. Joseph Baeta, Superintendent of Schools.

Congratulations to the students and staff at the Wilkins School and Stoughton High School!
