Where we just celebrated a significant milestone for the new elementary school building project with the groundbreaking ceremony, it is a good time to review a related component of this project - Redistricting.
The new Cedar Hill South Elementary School is being built for a larger enrollment that will allow our district to go from the current number of five elementary schools to four. The new school, along with the Dawe, Gibbons, and Hansen will be our four elementary buildings come September of 2028. In order to do this, we are going through a process to redistrict and redraw the neighborhood boundary lines for our elementary schools.
The Elementary Redistricting Committee held its first meeting of the school year on September 10th. Working with Dillinger Research and Applied Data, a consultant hired to assist with data analysis and boundary modeling, the Redistricting Committee will spend this school year creating a proposal for a new map of elementary neighborhoods. This proposal will be submitted to the School Committee for approval in the spring.
The new map will not be implemented until the start of the 2028-2029 school year. Barring unforeseen circumstances, elementary students will continue attending their current schools through the 2027-2028 school year. Still, it is important to note that the redistricting process will impact families at all of our elementary schools and there will be a lot of important developments to share about this process this school year.
